SOA News: Dajeil Ltd. Delivers 500 Percent Web Services Performance Improvements with New DH15K Accelerator PCI Card

New Product Improves XML Processing Speeds Through a More Efficient Approach and New Processing Capabilities

Web Services Journal
December 13, 2005

Web services infrastructure provider Dajeil has introduced DH15K, a new PCI card that dramatically boosts the processing performance of XML-based network traffic by five times. The DH15K PCI card from Dajeil plugs directly into standard network appliances and offloads key XML processing functions from the Central Processing Unit (CPU) to reduce gateway bottlenecks and increase throughput, speed processing times, and optimize server and application usage for greater efficiency. The product is being demonstrated this week at the Interop New York trade show in Dajeil booth #759, held at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City. The exhibit runs from December 13th to the 15th.

"The continued proliferation of XML-based traffic and the maturing of Web-services from early adopter to mainstream creates a very interesting opportunity for the enterprise," said Dajeil CEO Chris Fairclough. "Dajeil's unique approach to managing performance related issues that occur within this opportunity combines the best of both worlds - a more secure, robust and flexible infrastructure for Web Services performance optimization, coupled with ultra-high performance, that delivers a five-fold performance increase and scales with the enterprise as XML-based traffic multiplies."

XML continues to rapidly become the de-facto standard of data exchange. Industry research group ZapThink reports that XML-based traffic has grown from less than two percent in 2002 to 15 percent at present, with projected growth of 48 percent by 2008.

However, with the proliferation of XML comes many performance related issues that are retarding the mainstream deployment of Web Services solutions. Specifically, XML processing requires large amounts of CPU and server resources that simply cannot be maintained as traffic grows exponentially. As a result, products like the DH15K PCI card were developed to significantly accelerate processing times to ensure improved throughput and speedier response times within those high performance Web Services gateways, XML firewalls, and Web services application servers handling XML traffic.

Improved Performance: Enhanced Security in a Plug-and-Play PCI Card

The DH15K product eliminates the extensive bandwidth and processor requirements of XML traffic on the CPU by efficiently offloading it from the main server or appliance and onto a single board PCI card that simultaneously processes critical XML functions. Among these functions are:

  • Accelerated XML parsing schema validation and improved document navigation
  • Parallel processing of multiple SOAP messages and XML documents
  • Faster XPath processing for faster access to independent elements and attributes
  • Addressing critical WSS functions involving encryption, decryption, sign, and verify

The PCI card also produces critical XML statistics for improved analysis and management, and helps transform data into better output documents and internal representations for other business-to-business applications.

The hardware-based approach adopted by DH15K inherently enables XML traffic to be processed magnitudes-faster than other software-only solutions. In addition, it is inherently more secure than intrusion-prone software-based approaches to performance optimization. With an embedded design, DH15K combines enhanced security capabilities with a flexible infrastructure that can easily accommodate new XML specifications and the latest updates to thwart possible attacks and avoid emerging security risks.

The combination of this parallel and accelerated processing capability reduces gateway traffic bottlenecks and improves the overall performance of network servers and applications. As a result, DH15K delivers a faster, more secure and less expensive alternative to traditional software-only or multi-board approaches.

With a standard PCI card, DH15K offers a simple plug-and-play approach for easy installation. The product offers seamless integration with network applications through the use of simple Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and standard software components such as JAVA and C that support all major operating systems, including Linux. Interoperability of the PCI card with all network infrastructures is guaranteed with DH15K's conformance to the industry's latest XML and Web Services standards. These include XML 1.0 and 1.1, XML Schema, XSLT 1.0, Xpath 1.0, SOAP 1.2, WSS 1.0, XACML 1.0, and SAML 1.0, among others.

Pricing and Availability

The DH15K PCI card will be generally available in the first quarter of 2006. Pricing is quantity-based and starts at $1,500 USD per unit.
